What's New

This is a promotional sales flyer for Wireless Traveler, a leading provider of calling, data and texting services for travelers.

This is a design I did for the greeting screen for an app produced by Wireless Traveler and pitched to Merrill Lynch as a complimentary calling app for Merrill's top clients.

These are the beginning sketches for a freelance project I'm working on. Portmanteau is a specialty tour and niche travel company specializing is customizable travel itineraries for those who wish to venture off the beaten path. The concept behind the logo, was to mimic a p0rtmanteau — a trunk or suitcase opening into two equal parts with multiple compartments (i.e. the inner details of a travel itinerary) — and to play on it's other meaning — combining two words to create a new one (the founder is also a writer).

The initial sketch for a brochure design for OnLocation, an ancillary program of The Affluent Traveler Collection. OnLocation is a global network of travel professionals that are either locals of the given travel destination themselves or have been in country for many years and are experts in local customs and speak the language of that country fluently.

The idea behind the design was to split up the brochure by continent and group the photos on each spread so there was an organic flow from one photo to the next — as if to illustrate the natural melding of the traveler to their environs.

The final logo for Portmanteau, based on the original sketches. This will be used to further develop the brand (website, print collateral, business cards, stationery, etc.).

Detail of interior spread of OnLocation brochure and an example of the photo play. Opposite the photo montage, there is pattern overlay printed using a UV spot varnish over matte stock.

The cover for the OnLocation brochure. The map is printed in a UV spot varnish over a matte card stock and the location finder and logo are printed in spot PMS 8002 metallic ink.

An interior spread for the OnLocation brochure. The photos represent Central and South America. The adjacent graphic is an ancient Mayan carving.

An interior spread of the OnLocation brochure showing another example of the morphing photos — this time using the African continent as visual inspiration — with the whale mirroring the log.

An interior spread showcasing the continent of Asia, reflected in the grouping of photos on the left and Great Wall of China printed illustration printed in spot UV varnish on the right behind the text. The other element that is continued throughout the brochure is the "finder" symbol from the OnLocation logo, which is printed in PMS 8002 spot metallic gold on the bottom-right of each page.

JOURNEYS was once a 40+-page magazine that needed a complete redesign due to lack of utilization by our agents and sharp increases in printing and mailing costs. I was tasked with redesigning the program to be engaging, exciting and above all, profitable.

My solution was to enhance the visual experience by large, dynamic visuals, multiple layers of elements, and destination-inspired 'cutout' elements to break up the linear composition. On top of the design upgrade I also increased the overall size of the piece (when compared to standard direct mailers) to an impressive 10.5" x 8.25" format. This is statistically shown to increase open rates.

The new program, Destinations by journeys, now consists of 4 destination-based promotions (Europe, The Caribbean, Mexico and The Americas) with both a print and digital presence. There is a dedicated website with bonus editorial, "top 5" type listings and short dynamic videos for sharing on social media.

Above is the "Europe by journeys" program benefits spread highlighting the advantages of using a professional travel agent and the exclusive promotion offers available only attainable when you book through our affiliate travel agents.

The visuals are meant to show the pure essence of each destination — the things that only those "in the know' will experience. This is vacation steeped in the sounds, flavors, aromas and culture of Europe. These are itineraries curated by travel professionals who have walked in the very same footsteps as you and now use those experiences to plan your dream vacation, far from the throngs of sightseers and tacky tourist traps. This is the Europe only the locals know.
